do you still JWspeak?

but, i see that a good number of people here still say things like "i came in to the truth..." or "i learned the truth..." etc.

not being nitpicky or anything but just curious as to why do some still "talk the talk" so to speak.

I have definitly found myself using the lingo when posting here, but for me it is alsmost a relief.. people who actually understand what I am talking about and are familiar with the language.

Whenever I hear my husband use the terminology, I want to crack up laughing, it sounds so foreign coming out of his mouth.

When talking to my JW family, I also try and avoid the terminology to a large extent, and when I do, I cringe! It is almost as though by using the terminology I am still a part of them which of course I am no longer!

When speaking to my (and forgive me for using this term...but I know that you all understand) "worldly" friends, I definitly only use terms such as religion, church, homecell etc.

was talking to a dub last night and he was telling me about the great new kh their building.

he was saying that he and his wife have joined the rbc.

he was gushing about all the new projects they have in the works (an assembly hall in howell mi, and a couple of kh's.

I went on a couple of quick builds here in SA and they were fun... they were also quite eye opening, because they were mostly in the poorer township areas, which really made me aware of the inequality in my country... wow listen to me, not sounding bitter about thing for a change?

i am sure that john lennon was thinking of something very different when he penned the lyrics to this song, but while i was driving to work this morning listening to the green day version, something about the lyrics struck a chord within me.... as soon as you're born they make you feel small.

My Theory

i have had this theory for a very long time and i would like to hear what everyone has to say about this.. i think that people are either inherantly religious or not.

if they are inherantly religious, then the wtbts will naturally apeal to them, all the deep in depth study and the bible analysis and so on.

they feel the need to look to a higher source for fulfilment.. and then there are those that are not inherantly religious... the ones the prefer to concentrate on the here and now.

Thank you all for your comments... you all have made very valid thoughts which have given me a lot to think about.

I guess what I am trying to do is validate my lack of belief in anything in particular, or need to believe in anything in particular. I guess that I am content to live in the here and now and gain the strength I need from the people around me and from within. I don't feel a driving need to see where I fit into the bigger picture.

Did you have to dress up for meeting?

i remember having to dress up for every meeting even the ones during the week.

i had to wear a botton down shirt dress pants, a tie, dress shoes, dress socks and a blazer.

this was also required by my parents to dress up when going door to door.

We were always expected to dress "approriately" and skirts and dresses only at meeting, bookstudies and FS. I remeber my worldly boyfriend (now husband) coming to a meeting with me and being the only one in jeans... he was amazed at how dressed up JW's got for meetings.

What bothers me most is that women were never allowed to wear pants of any description... wtf... how antiquated a rule can you get... Even my sister in bethal now, she is a cleaner and can't even wear pants for cleaning the offices!

We did not have the pantihose rule, thank goodness!

COLLEGE IS EVIL!!!!!

hi everyone...this year i had to go to the district convention and with my newly opened mind...i sat there rolling my eyes the whole time...i was however very distrubed by a talk on higher education...im sure you all know of it...basically telling all of us outright that it was no good and we shouldnt be going...now i know they have done it in the past...but it seemed so blatant this year in your face...college is evil.....here's a related link .

I am still pissed off, 12 years later, that all my parents expected of me was to complete highschool!

I was forced to go straight to work (because I did not want to pioneer) and I often wish that I had stood up to them and insisted on studying further. If I had my first two years in the working world would not have been an absolute misery... it is not fair to expect an 18 year old kid to go into the corporate world and just cope. I did not cope well and this did huge damage to my self esteem which took years to recover. I also would not have spent 11 years doing something I absolutely hated because it was the only job I could get with only a high school certificate. I also would have developed a confidence, a sense of achievement and a and belief in myself, that 11 years in a sould destroying job could not ever provide.

But there is no point in dwelling on the past, I am moving on and making damn sure that I dont spend the next decade of my life doing something sould destroying and boring (I am turning 30 in 3 months and I am making this year a turning point in my life). Well different strokes... all my sister ever wanted to do was finish school so that she could pioneer and then go to Bethal... Well, lucky for her, she acheived all her goals and she is now a cleaner in bethal, married to a MS and living the perfect little JW life. I would say she is probably over qualified with her matric certificate? OK, so I do have some bitterness issues to work through...

Going on to study further encourages independant thinking, exactly what the organisation does not want of it's followers!

I think that people are either inherantly religious or not. If they are inherantly religious, then the WTBTS will naturally apeal to them, all the deep in depth study and the bible analysis and so on. They feel the need to look to a higher source for fulfilment.

And then there are those that are not inherantly religious... the ones the prefer to concentrate on the here and now. That does not make them shallow or anything. For these people, the look to themselves and those around them for fulfilment.

I personally fall into the latter category. I found all the study and literature and even dare I say, the bible, so very boring and something I could just not get passionate about!

Any thoughts?

How Much and for How Long Did You Love Being In The 'Truth'?

reading tijkmoo's original post about his experience (well worth a read all you newbies...) it made me think back to my experience of being a witness.

up until 4 months ago i had spent my whole life loving being a witness (apart from twinges of discontent when a young girl being left out of attending friends birthday parties) and was a faithful sister who pioneered when possible and was a member of the quickbuild team in my single days.

i felt it was the truth and there was no where else to go.

You had a 15 minute break... ha, we had no such luck... it was straight from one to the other.

I was born into the org and I pretty much always wished that we could be one of those normal families of the world and always hated feeling so different.

I used to kinda like the lead up to conventions, all the fuss and new clothes and stuff, although the arguments about skirt lengths always got in the way. As a little kid, we would play this game after meetings... there were 7 steps at the entrance to the KH and the kid who was on would shout out a day of the week and we would jump to the relevant step. The game was stopped though when the grown ups realised that the last day was not Sunday but "Devils Day". Also after the meeting we would sometimes as a family stop for pastries from a local shop and sit and have a late night treat, that was cool. And sometimes when there was something else on like the memorial or something and there would only be a WT study, that was cool...

What I hated was never fitting into the cliquey crowd, the in crowd. I hated being bored, bored, bored and guilty, guilty, guilty because I was so bored!
